The first uterus transplant has been performed by the surgeons in Cleveland, an Ohio medical center in the United States recently. The Identity of the 26 year old patient has not been revealed due to her privacy reasons, she has been in a stable condition after long hours of surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, information from the hospital.
The organ has been transplanted from a deceased donor. A year back, the Cleveland Clinic started screening candidates for uterus transplants, to replace a non-functioning uterus, finally allowing a woman to give birth.
The research team in the hospital continues to screen transplant on patients with Uterine Factor Infertility (UFI), a condition that can’t be brought back to its original state is found in 3 percent to 5 percent of women throughout the world.
